Like, almost $400 in work. And that's with coupons.
Nothing is broken, exactly, but I'm way overdue for a few preventive maintenance items. I'm running on borrowed time with my serpentine belt, for example, and if that thing snaps in the middle of the highway, I'm pretty screwed. So, the work must be done ASAP.
Also, my cat is having some kind of respiratory issue. She has these wheezing fits, which are really scary for about sixty seconds. I took her to the vet today, and the results were inconclusive. She's on a course of antibiotics now, but may need a chest X-ray. So, right now I'm out $175, but if she needs the X-ray (likely), that'll be another $250. And I have to fight with her every day, twice a day, to give her these damn antibiotics. She can be a stubborn bitch, just like her mom.
To make matters worse, I'm having a lot of trouble selling my old desk.
So far, 2012 is financially sucking. It's times like these when I have a really hard time staying positive about my finances. I need to get over the $2,000 hump with my savings. It seems like as soon as I start edging towards $2,000, I get hit with some kind of emergency.
If you can't tell, I'm frustrated!

Guh! Sorry about the cat and the car. I can relate on the cat front. Libel got an eye infection a couple of years ago that required me to put ointment in his open eye, then close his eye lid to smear the ointment. Seriously?! I tried to do it by myself the first few days because David was absolutely no help. By the end of those first three days, I was in tears. I couldn't keep him still, and once he got loose, there was no getting him back. I finally decided to drive him to the vet every day for the treatment, which they thankfully did free of charge. What a nightmare!
I am right there with you. I spent $1600 on my car right before the beginning of the year. We had just upped our savings with some vacation/sick time that was paid out from my Hubs old job, and then we had to spend most of it on the car. Boo!
So sorry to hear this, especially about your baby. These things happen, don't let it get you down about your savings!
I'm so sorry. I hope everything gets better soon.
Ugh...not a great start, but you will come out of it on top thanks to actually having an emergency cushion. Just think about it from that perspective and hopefully it will be a bit easier to stay positive. Hang in there, this too shall pass! :)
I didn't know you were a cat lady too! Sorry to hear about your troubles. At least on the plus side you have the e-fund to cover these kinds of things, right? So that's a good cushion to have!

This is exactly where I was in October - car repairs, pet surgery needed, and unexpected expenses popping up all over. It DID suck, I agree. Keep your head up and stay focused on savings; you'll make them up next month.
Also, your site was my #1 blogger referral from the last few months so I just wanted to say a BIG thank you!!! Love your site :)
